Dear Parents,
As we culminate the second semester of school, some of our RLC students are still working hard on finalizing all the required activities for the unit on Archimedean Solids. Meanwhile, other students have begun to unravel the physics behind the construction of roller coasters. They began by learning Newton’s Three Laws of Motion and its interplay with two forms of energy- Kinetic and Potential; researching the background history of roller coasters; and learning about the top 10 roller coasters in the world. They will embark on this unit as entrepreneurs of amusement parks and be involved in the following activities: decide whether to work as a sole proprietor or be in a partnership; develop a business plan; design logos; write a business proposal; follow a design process; design a blueprint of their roller coaster; keep a transaction log; and learn to advertise their creation. Our field trip to McWane Center is scheduled for March 9. The cost is $17.50 per student and $9.50 per adult chaperone. This price will include the following: Adventure Hall, IMAX, and lunch. I will be sending paperwork regarding the trip on February 9. We can only take a maximum of 9 chaperones for this trip to get the group rate.
