Newsletter Nov. 1, 2010 - Kermit Johnson

November 1, 2010

Dear Parents,

It’s hard to believe that we have completed the first 9-weeks of school!  Included with this newsletter is our first quarter RLC progress report.  Please remember to sign and return it at your earliest convenience.      This year in RLC, our unit activities are designed to incorporate 21st C skills.  For our unit on World War II, the students learned to generate graphic organizers using MSWord for their research questions on the following topics: Who, What, Where, When, How, and Why.  They summarized all of their findings, creating posters and brochures using MSWorks Publisher.  Most of their finished products were turned in electronically through their Gaggle email accounts.       On our unit study of WWII, the students researched famous non-military people during this era for our “Who’s Who in WWII” gallery display.  Be sure to find time to view our products, displayed all around the school!        Once the students are done with these products, they will proceed to creating a “Survival Game”, highlighting survivors of the Holocaust.  We hope to finish all of this unit’s activities within a couple of weeks and begin our unit on Twisting, Turning, Roller Coasting Physics.  Please start recycling those paper towel and toilet paper rolls!     Thank you for your continued support of our gifted program!
